The vibe

Nice is one of the best-equipped cities in the region for dog exercise areas: the city lists 14 of them, spread across different neighbourhoods, where dogs can roam off the leash safely.

What to know before you go

Among the largest and best-confirmed, all fenced and with a water point:

  • Parc Carol de Roumanie — 27-29 avenue de Fabron, 1,416 sqm, the largest in the city, within a 2.3 ha park.
  • Jardin de la Villa Ratti — 1-3 avenue Ratti, 1,100 sqm.
  • Jardin Paul Scoffier — 179 boulevard Napoléon III, 916 sqm.
  • Parc Chambrun ("Temple de l'amour") — 14 avenue Chateaubriand, about 700 sqm, divided into a large-dog zone and a small-dog zone.

This information comes from cross-checking several specialist sources (including one citing the official list from the city of Nice directly), consistent on addresses and areas. The city has run its 14 exercise areas since May 2010 (official date). Full list found by cross-referencing: Jardin Joseph Pisano (bd du Mont-Boron), Parc Docteur Jean Guillaud/Parc de la Clua (15 bis av. de la Clua), Jardin av. de la Pastorelle in Fabron (some sources indicate 24/7 access), Jardin de la Batterie du Cimetière russe (55-57 av. Raoul Dufy, Fabron), Parc du Castel des Deux Rois (32 av. du Mont-Alban), Jardin Joseph Kessel (rue Rouget de Lisle/av. Raymond Comboul), Jardin Paul Scoffier (179 bd Napoléon III — some sources spell it "Paul Escoffier", but the tourist office's official spelling remains "Scoffier"), Jardin de la Villa Ratti (1-3 av. Ratti, Cimiez), Parc Carol de Roumanie (27-29 av. de Fabron, the largest), Jardin Léon Tesseire (av. de l'Olivetto), Jardin Pisano (Mont-Boron tunnel), Parc Chambrun (14 av. Chateaubriand), an area near the Roseraie at the Cimiez monastery, and an area on avenue du XVe Corps.

Coco's tip: Parc Chambrun is handy if you have a small dog not comfortable around bigger ones, thanks to its separate zone.

These parks are spread across several Nice neighbourhoods (Fabron, the harbour, the centre), handy wherever you're staying in the city.
