The vibe

At the foot of the Maures massif, a few minutes from Port Grimaud and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, Ranch La Mène blends several worlds: a mini petting farm where young and old can feed ponies, goats, sheep, pigs, llamas and poultry, a riding centre with horse rides and pony introductions, and a western-themed restaurant, Le Grill du Ranch, serving wood-fired grilled meats in a warm, family atmosphere.

What to know before you go

The site accepts dogs both in the farm/riding area and at the restaurant: several directories mention it ("pets accepted"), and that's also what we found when we visited — other restaurant customers had their dogs with them on the terrace, in a relaxed atmosphere. We did, however, find no written dog policy, in black and white, on the Ranch's official website: we therefore recommend keeping your dog on a lead, simply as a precaution, since the site also hosts semi-free-roaming farm animals (ponies, goats, poultry...) that an overly curious dog could get overexcited by.

For the mini petting farm, expect a small entry fee (around €2 for an adult, a bit more for children according to the directories consulted) that gives access to the visit and the option to feed the animals. The restaurant's hours vary noticeably by season and sources don't fully agree on the detail — a call before heading over remains the best option.

Coco's tip: I love this kind of place — I get to sniff the ponies and goats on a lead while my humans tuck into the grill, and I'm not the only dog around: several others were settled quietly on the terrace with their owners the day of our visit.

Nearby

Port Grimaud and its canals, as well as the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, are a few minutes' drive away. Grimaud village, with its citadel and Provençal lanes, rounds out a day in the area nicely.
