The vibe

TLV-TVM (Transports Littoral Varois) runs the shortest and most frequent service to Porquerolles, departing from La Tour Fondue on the Giens peninsula — a crossing of about 15 minutes. The company also serves Port-Cros and Le Levant from the port of Hyères.

What to know before you go

Dogs are accepted on board free of charge, provided they don't disturb other passengers or the crew. Once on the island, the rule changes depending on where you go: on Porquerolles, your dog can join you on a lead across almost the whole island, except on the three main beaches (Notre-Dame, Argent, Courtade) between 8am and 8pm from 1 April to 30 September. On Port-Cros, the rule is much stricter: dogs are only allowed in the village, between Fort du Moulin and the Saint-Joseph statue — not on the island's trails.

Coco's tip: for a proper walk with your dog, choose Porquerolles rather than Port-Cros — the latter isn't suited to walking dogs despite its wild look suggesting otherwise.

Nearby

The Giens peninsula, with its salt-flats trail, is well suited to a walk before or after the crossing.
