The vibe

Starting from the Lavandou harbour, this coastal trail follows the coast to Plage de la Fossette, with lovely views of the islands of Port-Cros and Levant. Easy as far as Plage de Saint-Clair — nicknamed "the pearl of Le Lavandou" for its turquoise water — it gets more demanding after that. Le Lavandou stretches over 12 km of coastline and counts 12 different fine-sand beaches: l'Anglade, the town-centre Grande Plage, Saint-Clair, La Fossette, Aiguebelle, Jean Blanc, l'Éléphant, Le Rossignol, Le Layet, Cavalière, Cap Nègre and Pramousquier (the last one shared with Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer).

What to know before you go

⚠️ Important: unlike most neighbouring towns around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, which allow dogs on leash at set hours, Le Lavandou bans them outright from its 12 beaches, even on a leash, from 1 April to 31 October — only assistance dogs remain allowed. This rule, confirmed both by the town hall's own site (le-lavandou.fr) and the tourist office's FAQ (ot-lelavandou.fr), settles a doubt this listing used to leave open: the exact dates are indeed 1 April and 31 October, not the 1 May-30 September sometimes cited elsewhere. Some tolerance only exists out of season, from November to March. The trail itself, away from the beaches, remains usable all year round. The stretch between Saint-Clair and La Fossette is more technical, with unsecured sections; a municipal order also temporarily closed the stretch between Four des Maures beach and the access to La Fossette in late 2025 — check the trail's status before setting out.

Coco's tip: save this walk for autumn, winter or very early spring if you want to enjoy the trail with your dog without beach restrictions. If you really want a beach with your dog in high summer nearby, head to Tamaris beach in La Londe-les-Maures, Cabasson beach in Bormes-les-Mimosas (the pebble section to the west) or any of Ramatuelle's beaches — all named by Le Lavandou's own tourist office as alternatives.

Nearby

Le Lavandou and its harbour are right nearby, with views of the islands of Port-Cros and Levant offshore. Worth knowing: naturism is tolerated by municipal order on Le Layet and Le Rossignol beaches, further west.
