The vibe
From the Corniche Escartefigue (or the Mémorial du Débarquement car park for a shorter variant), the trail climbs up to the Fort de la Croix Faron. The climb is sustained over stony ground, but the reward matches the effort: an exceptional panoramic view over the whole of Toulon harbour.
What to know before you go
Allow about 6.4 km round trip and 2h30 to 3h of walking. Dogs are allowed, with a leash recommended especially near the sections overlooking the heights at the summit. No water point is present anywhere on the route: bring a generous supply for your dog. Favour spring or autumn, or set off very early in the morning in summer.
Nearby
Toulon harbour is seen from a different angle from the summit. Along the way or once up there: the Mémorial du Débarquement, the Chapelle Notre-Dame du Faron and the Mont Faron big cat sanctuary round out the outing nicely, before heading back down towards the town centre, just a few minutes by car.
