The vibe

At the heart of the Estéron gorges, the Clue de Saint-Auban reveals a wide pool with jade-green reflections, framed by steep rock walls and the ruins of an old mill that recall the site's industrial past.

What to know before you go

Access is via a marked path that descends on the left bank, before crossing the river on a stone ford. The site also attracts canyoning enthusiasts, for whom the descent is only allowed at low water, from 1 April to 31 October, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm — a sign of the risks tied to the Estéron's flow on this stretch. No specific information on dogs was found for this site: apply a leash by default, as everywhere out in nature in the department.

Coco's tip: stay alert to any unusual movement of water in the pools, even during an ordinary swim — flash floods on the Estéron can rise very quickly after a storm upstream, sometimes without any visible rain on site.

Nearby

The Clue d'Aiglun, a little further south in the same Estéron valley, offers another spot for swimming out in nature (see the dedicated listing).
