Dogs — contradiction to checkAn initial search produced a summary claiming that animals are banned on the shores (source cited: Brignoles tourist office); a second, more targeted search could not find this clause and found nothing clear. We cannot confirm this with certainty — call the Carcès town hall (04 94 04 59 76) before going specifically for this reason
SwimmingBanned on the whole lake: it is a drinking-water reserve for the Toulon metropolitan area
Type100-hectare lake, full loop ~7 km, wide and shaded path
ActivitiesCycling, horse riding, walking, line fishing (no-kill carp/black bass) — wild camping banned

The vibe

Also known as Lac de Sainte-Suzanne, this body of water in the Provence Verte, north-east of Brignoles, offers a rural, peaceful setting, much quieter than the Verdon lakes. The paths around the lake (about 7 km for a full loop, wide and shaded) suit all kinds of outings, on foot, by bike or on horseback.

What to know before you go

Watch out for two important points confirmed by official sources (the tourist office and the Carcès town hall): swimming is banned across the whole lake, which serves as a drinking-water reserve for the Toulon metropolitan area, and access to the track that loops around it depends on the forest massifs being open (possible closure in case of fire risk from June to September). On the exact status of dogs, our research is contradictory — one source mentions a ban on the shores, another finds no trace of one: to be safe, call the town hall before going there specifically with your dog. It's a lake popular with locals, notably for picnics and line fishing (no-kill carp/black bass). A large free car park is on the left bank on the D24 between Carcès and Vins, with a few spaces on the right bank on the D13.

Coco's tip: less than an hour from the coast, this is the easiest option for a freshwater outing without devoting a whole day to it — but plan on a walk rather than a swim, since swimming is banned here.

Nearby

The village of Carcès and the Caramy waterfalls, a bit further on, round out the outing nicely.
