The vibe

This is the only beach in Nice where dogs are allowed — a somewhat out-of-the-way pebble spot, sheltered by a small bluff, at the western end of the Promenade des Anglais, not far from the airport. The surroundings are nothing special, but it has the merit of existing at all, in a large city that is otherwise fairly closed to dogs on its beaches.

What to know before you go

The proximity of the airport and a wastewater treatment plant makes the atmosphere less glamorous than the rest of the Riviera, but the bluff that shelters the beach still makes it pleasant. A shower lets you rinse your dog off on site after swimming. On dog categorisation: a specialist source (emmenetonchien.com, updated 15/12/2025) states category 1 dogs are banned, category 2 is allowed muzzled and on a leash, and category 3 is free to swim — a rule similar to the one officially confirmed at Lenval beach. Another source, dated May 2026, claims the opposite — that categorised dogs are accepted without this restriction: no official page from the City of Nice could be found to settle this, so treat it with caution.

Coco's tip: if you're after a more scenic setting, Île Sainte-Marguerite off Cannes is well worth the boat trip.

Nearby

In Saint-Laurent-du-Var, right next door, another beach west of the harbour also allows dogs — handy if the Lanterne is crowded.
