The vibe

Set at the entrance to the flower market, on Cours Saleya, Pain & Cie is a café-restaurant in Vieux Nice that has been at this spot for 26 years, less than 30 metres from the Promenade des Anglais. People come here for a late breakfast, a salad on the terrace or a drink at the end of the day, amid the gentle bustle of one of the city's liveliest squares — the terrace gets plenty of sun, but the tables are small and close together.

What to know before you go

Dogs being welcomed with a complimentary water bowl is now confirmed by two independent sources (a specialised directory and emmenetonchien.com, which writes that it "happily welcomes dogs for a gourmet break"). Service is continuous from breakfast until evening, every day from 8am to 10:30pm, for a budget of €16 to €20 per person.

Coco's tip: the terrace looks straight onto the flower market — avoid the morning market rush if you want a quiet table with your dog.

Nearby

Cours Saleya is at the heart of Vieux Nice, just steps from the Promenade des Anglais and the beach. Easy to combine a terrace meal and a seafront walk with your dog.
