The vibe
This coastal trail links Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer to Bandol via a "sentier des Douaniers"-type path that follows the coast through Mediterranean garrigue scrubland, passing the Port d'Alon cove — a lovely stop protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Depending on the stretch chosen, allow between 6-7 km (Bandol ↔ Port d'Alon) and up to 12 km for the full route to the Port de la Madrague in Saint-Cyr.
What to know before you go
A leash is mandatory along the whole coastal trail, notably because of sections overlooking the cliff. At the Port d'Alon cove itself, dogs on a leash are tolerated, but they're banned from the beach and the area behind it from 1 April to 30 September, from 9am to 5pm (municipal order n°2023.04.515, which also exempts guide and assistance dogs) — outside this period, your dog is welcome all day, still on a leash. The ground is rocky, typical of garrigue scrubland, with little shade over most of the route: bring plenty of water for your dog. The Port d'Alon car park is paid in season (around €5 to €10 depending on the spot and the time, 8am-5pm from 1 April to 30 September), free the rest of the year; car parks also exist in Bandol (Casino, Central, Stade) and on the Saint-Cyr side at Port de la Madrague.
Nearby
Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Bandol, at the two ends of the trail, each offer ways to extend the outing: the dog wash in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer to rinse off your companion after the walk, and on the Bandol side, Bandol Dog Beach or dog-friendly accommodation if you're extending your stay in the area.
