The vibe

The city of Hyères created this dog beach on Mérou beach, Boulevard du Front de Mer, after a petition with 25,000 signatures — the area has existed since August 2022. Unlike many beaches that close to dogs in summer, this one stays open year-round, with no seasonal restriction. The area is marked off with wooden "ganivelle" fencing and clear signage, and a few pines provide some welcome shade on hot days.

What to know before you go

The ground is a mix of sand and pebbles depending on the spot. A free, partially shaded municipal car park sits about 200 m past the village of L'Ayguade, on the right coming from Hyères — it fills up fast on weekends in high season, so it's best to arrive early. Poop-bag dispensers and bins are installed at the entrances to the area. The exact leash/off-leash rule could not be confirmed with absolute certainty from an official source consulted remotely: as a precaution, keep your dog on leash on arrival and watch the on-site signage.

Coco's tip: the Giens peninsula and its landscapes between two seas are worth exploring right nearby if you're extending your stay in the area — avoid July-August in the middle of the day if you want to use the car park without stress.

Nearby

The Cani Plouf in Le Pradet, to the west, is another good year-round option in this part of the Var. In Hyères itself, a groomer and the O'Créol restaurant near Port de la Capte let you round out the day without leaving the area.
