The vibe

The Parc naturel départemental du Vinaigrier sits on the heights above Nice, between the Riquier district and the Col de Villefranche, following an old water-supply channel converted into a walking trail. The route climbs gently to around 370 metres of altitude, offering views over the city, the surrounding hills and the sea, in a setting of pines and scrubland that feels much quieter than the seafront.

What to know before you go

The trail, flat for a good part of its length (a former channel of the Compagnie Générale des Eaux), remains easy and suitable for the whole family, covering about 2 to 3 km in roughly an hour. As in all of the Alpes-Maritimes' departmental nature parks, the rules require dogs to wear a collar and stay on a leash year-round; category-1 dogs are banned and category-2 dogs must be muzzled. Access is via the Chemin du Vinaigrier, followed by a few steps up to the start of the trail.

Coco's tip: a good option for a short, shaded walk with your dog without leaving Nice, especially in the late afternoon once the heat eases off.

Nearby

Mont Boron and its park, reachable on foot or by car, let you extend the outing with another view over the Baie des Anges and Nice's harbour.
