The vibe

Very discreet and hard to spot from the road, Pramousquier beach unfolds a fine stretch of white sand and peacock-blue water, in a bay sheltered between Cap Nègre (which protects it from the Mistral wind) and the Pointe de l'Écuelle. The site also has history: in August 1944, Commandos d'Afrique landed here to destroy the German gun batteries on Cap Nègre, and Allied troops later used it as a secondary landing site.

What to know before you go

As on the town's other beaches, dogs on leash are allowed but banned from 8am to 7pm between 1 June and 30 September — a rule confirmed by the Golfe de Saint-Tropez tourist office for the Rayol-Canadel side. The beach is actually shared between two towns: the Fontalde stream, often dry, marks the administrative boundary between Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer to the east and Le Lavandou to the west, which lists it among its "12 beaches". Best to check the on-site signage, as the two towns' posted rules may not perfectly align.

Coco's tip: the Voie Verte (former railway) from Canadel is the nicest way in on foot or by bike with your dog — about 2 km, shaded by pines, with no traffic.

Nearby

Canadel beach is 2 km away via the Voie Verte. Towards Cap Nègre, the coastal path has been closed to the public since 2008 for security reasons (private property) — you can't continue the walk along the coast in that direction.
