The vibe
In the heart of old Saint-Tropez, between the Portalet tower and the Tour Vieille, La Ponche and La Fontanette are two tiny adjoining beaches at the foot of the fishermen's houses in the town's oldest quarter. La Ponche (from the Provençal pouncho, "point") was long Saint-Tropez's historic fishing harbour, before becoming a gathering place for artists and intellectuals in the 1950s who helped make the village internationally famous — it was notably a filming location for And God Created Woman with Brigitte Bardot in 1956.
What to know before you go
As on the town's other beaches, the July 2026 municipal order allows dogs on leash from 6am to 9.30am and 6.30pm to 10pm, from 16 July to 15 September; banned the rest of the day during that period, with more relaxed rules off-season. Saint-Tropez Tourisme's own listing for these two beaches, however, still shows "dogs not allowed" with no mention of hours at all — most likely a listing that hasn't been updated since the order rather than a genuine exception, though that isn't guaranteed. Check the signage on site before settling in with your dog.
Nearby
Saint-Tropez's harbour, the Citadel and the Maritime History Museum are steps away. The larger Graniers beach is about 400 m to the east.
