The vibe
Plage de la Douane is one of the small beaches and coves that extend Escalet beach towards Cap Taillat, on Ramatuelle's coastal path. It takes its name from the customs officers' house that still stands right by the water, built under Napoleon I and recently restored. The white sand here is some of the finest on the Côte d'Azur, with a direct view of Cap Taillat — Ramatuelle's tourist office ranks it among the town's most beautiful beaches.
What to know before you go
All of Ramatuelle's beaches — Pampelonne, Bonne Terrasse, Escalet and the coves beyond, including la Douane — welcome dogs on leash year-round, with no set hours, according to the "Dog friendly" leaflet published by Ramatuelle's tourist office. Swimming remains forbidden in the swimming-only zones (ZRUB), signposted at the lifeguard posts. Plage de la Douane itself is unsupervised and can only be reached on foot, via the coastal path.
