The vibe

At the entrance of Saint-Tropez, just past the harbour and its large car park, La Bouillabaisse is a wide sandy beach facing the Maures mountain range — the best spot in town to watch the sunset behind them. Its name comes from a small coastal stream, the ruisseau des Mares, which roughly marks the boundary between Saint-Tropez and the neighbouring town of Gassin, halfway along the beach.

What to know before you go

Since the July 2026 municipal order, dogs on leash are allowed on Saint-Tropez's town beaches from 6am to 9.30am and 6.30pm to 10pm, from 16 July to 15 September; banned the rest of the day during that period, with more relaxed access off-season. The tourist office's own listing for this beach still shows the generic "dogs not allowed" tag, with no reference to these hours at all — most likely because that listing hasn't been updated since the order, rather than a genuine exception, though that isn't guaranteed. Best to check the signage on site before settling in with your dog.

Coco's tip: the Gassin side (west of the ruisseau des Mares) follows that town's own rules, not Saint-Tropez's — and the Var tourism board's official dog-beach list for Gassin doesn't include La Bouillabaisse at all, only La Moune and Le Treizain. Best to stay on the eastern (Saint-Tropez) half with your dog.

Saint-Tropez's harbour and historic centre are a few minutes' walk away. The coastal path from Port Grimaud reaches La Bouillabaisse after following the whole bay.
